, or “
wait til you see it because they actually did kind of a good job with it”?

Except that the II was more inline with the original ‘64 Mustang than the later 1st generation Mustangs. It was Iococca’s pet project, he hated how “fat” the Mustang got, even before the ‘71 model.
“Stylish” and “Fun” were always high on the Mustang’s priorities, “Fast” has only become a requirement in the past 10 or so years .

In what way is a II s tylish?

I will go to my grave believing the 1974 Mustang should have been a redesigned Maverick:
even though it was still Falcon-based, it was only a hundred lbs or so heavier than the Mustang II. Definitely a lot lighter than the lard-assed ‘73. It had all the right proportions already.

Pretty much every car built in the mid 70's is ugly today. Giant chrome grills, oversized bumpers, landau tops, chrome side trim, and metallic browns were all the rage then. Here’s a ‘74 Galaxie and a ‘74 Torino (Ford’s other “ sports” car) for comparison.
Those designs aged about as well as orange shag carpet and avocado colored kitchen appliances.

No argument here, that Mav looked great. Even the Pinto looked better than the II.
I think the Mustang II just fell into the trap of 70's styling, the “More luxury styling features makes it more luxurious” idea.
Just minimizing the chrome and ditching the vinyl roof makes it a lot better.

"bring back the Probe"
Out of context, that could sound... bad.

A Mustangy SUV is bad, so it’s fitting.
